Current Opportunities:

Garden Maintenance Technician

Part-time, Seasonal (mid-April to mid-October 2024)

Wage: $20/hour + $75 weekly travel allowance

Availability: 7-18 hours/week, Monday-Friday

Key Responsibilities:

Under the direction of Lead Gardener, the candidate will be responsible for executing the following tasks:

o   Weed and cultivate garden beds, pathways, etc.

o   Shovel, wheelbarrow and spread mulch/topsoil/compost

o   Dig and remove turfgrass; edge garden beds

o   Perform basic plant identification skills (annuals vs. perennials vs. weeds)

o   Plant, water and fertilize plant material

o   Assist with planting annual containers

o   Divide, transplant and relocate plants

o   Assist with pruning shrubs and small trees with hand tools

o   Assist and observe pest/disease diagnosis situations

o   Lift, rake, sweep and carry equipment and perform site clean up

o   Other duties (as assigned)

Key Skills:

 Preference will be given to those candidates that can display the following competencies: 

o   Attention to detail (following instructions, thorough weeding, etc.)

o   Tracking and documentation skills (complete a daily task report)

o   Physical stamina and ability to work in all weather

o   Professionalism and customer service

o   Excellent verbal communication (between team members and customers)

o   Flexibility and punctuality

o   Responsibility (able to carry out job tasks independently)

 

Working Environment:

o Outdoors in various weather (hot/cold temperatures, humidity, rain)

o Ability to lift 30lbs repeatedly (up to 50lbs infrequently)

o Stand, walk, lift, bend, crouch and kneel for extended periods

o Work in remote/rural areas without access to restaurants

 

Requirements:

o Post-secondary education in botany, horticulture, ecology or a related field (an asset)

o Hands-on experience within the landscape or horticulture industry (an asset)

o Access to reliable transportation to job sites within approx. 45 min. of Bobcaygeon (required)
